SAINT MARIA CRISTINA OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION BRANDO, VIRGIN AND FOUNDRESS Maria Cristina of the Immaculate Conception Brando - first called Adelaida Brando after she was born on May 1 , 1856 in Naples, Italy - showed a strong leaning towards religious life, holiness and prayer early in her life. When she was about twelve years old, she professed a vow of perpetual chastity before an image of the Christ child. Of delicate health and suffering several spells of illness, she finally managed to became a nun at the Sacramentine's convent in 1876, taking on the name Maria Cristina of the Immaculate Conception , only to become unwell again a while later. ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 20th of January WELCOME! BLESSED BASIL MOREAU, PRIEST AND FOUNDER Basil Moreau, C.S.C. was born February 11, 1799 in Laigné-en-Belin, France. This holy priest was the founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross from which two additional congregations emerged, namely the Marianites of Holy Cross and the Sisters of the Holy Cross. In 1821, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Le Mans. He later became a seminary professor, teaching philosophy and theology, while enthusiastically continuing to engage in pastoral work. He was known not only as an inspiring professor, but also a man of God who faithfully sought to grow in the image of Christ through prayer, personal asceticism, and service. As he had grown up amidst the turmoil of the French Revolution, he felt compelled to revitalise a Church devastated by years of civil war. BLESSED EUSTOCHIUM, ABBESS OF MONTE VERGINE Blessed Eustochium (Smaragda) was born in A.D. 1430 at Messina in eastern Sicily. Her father was of the noble family of Calafato, and her mother a neé Colonna. She excelled in virtue and beauty, therefore several rich and noble Sicilians asked her hand in marriage, but in vain, because Eustochium had made up her mind to remain in the virgin state for love of Jesus, whom she had chosen as her bridegroom. After she had withstood the demands of her parents for some time, unswervingly but but with childlike modesty, and even endured mistreatment from them (in their attempt to make her change her mind) with wonderful patience, she eventually received permission to enter the monastery of Saint Clara in Bassincano. (1693) Blessed Eusebius, of Gran (Strigonium) in Hungary, was born towards the close of the 12th century. He was descended from one of the noblest families of Hungary, and is the founder of the hermits of Saint Paul. His youth was very edifying. As he grew older, he distributed his goods among the poor and retired to a forest. Disciples soon gathered around him, for whom he founded a monastery, dedicated to Saint Paul, the first hermit . These men observed the statutes of the Regular Augustinian Canons. His death took place on January 20, 1270. The order itself spread from Hungary to Austria and Poland. St Minausius died A.D. 514. SOME ANCIENT HANDWRITTEN BOOKS MENTION HIS FEAST DAY IN JANUARY Some ancient handwritten books mention his festival on January 1 and January 20, and some French sources style him a saint. SAINT HADOLUDUS, BISHOP OF MANS Saint Hadoludus, also known as Chadoindus, Haduindus, Harduinus, Chadoenus, Hadwinus, Caduindus, Clodoenus; in French Chadoin, Hardouin, Audoin, was the twelfth bishop of Mans, who lived in the first half of the seventh century. HE TOOK PART IN THE COUNCIL OF RHEIMS He took part in the Council of Rheims (630). However, he was no longer able to attend the Council of Chalons (650) in person, but he was still present through a deputy, Abbot Hagnoaldus, who participated on his behalf. HE BUILT AND RENOVATED MANY MONASTERIES AND CHURCHES Saint Hadoludus built and renovated many monasteries and houses of God, including Evron and Boisseliere, and died in great holiness, having presided over the bishopric for more than thirty years. ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 20th of January ST AENEAS, ABBOT Saint Aeneas (Aengusius) was abbot at Cluain in Ireland and is mentioned most honourably in the Life of the holy virgin Ida , who is venerated on January 15. WAS HE EVER PUBLICLY VENERATED? The Bollandists, while giving him the title 'saint', following the Irish martyrologies, place him among the Prætermissi because they lack evidence of public veneration - the main criterion for listing a person as 'saint'. CADUCANUS, BISHOP OF BANGOR - 20 JANUARY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 20th of January CADUCANUS, BISHOP OF BANGOR Caducanus, Bishop of Bangor in Wales (Vallesia), was a pious and learned man. HE SPENT HIS LAST YEARS IN A MONASTERY With the permission of Pope Gregory IX he eventually resigned his episcopal dignity and ended his life in the monastery of Douvres in the English county of Herfort.
