  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 17th of August WELCOME! BLESSED LUDO, CISTERCIAN LAY BROTHER Ludo, commemorated on August 17, was a Cistercian converse¹ (lay brother) in Hemmenrode near Kreuznach. Bucelin * lists him as Blessed Ludo. Henriquez's * entry on this day calls this holy man Saint Ludo (III. 416). ERLEFRID, ABBOT - 17 AUGUST

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 17th of August ERLEFRID, ABBOT Erlefrid (Erlefridus), third abbot of Sithiu in Belgium, succeeded Saint Rigobert.  Saint Bertin chose Erlefrid, whom he had trained and who was one of his most excellent students. A very virtuous monk, too, Erlefrid spent much of the day and night in prayer. He also was blessed with the gift of  miracles. (Mg.)   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 17th of August WELCOME! BLESSED ANDOVERA, QUEEN AND MARTYR  Andovera's Repudiation, by Albert Maignan Blessed Andovera or Audouvaria was the wife of King Chilperic I of France [they had several children together], and was displaced by the ruse of Fredegundis, who was a concubine of the king. SHE IS LISTED AS A MARTYR Chilperic sent Andovera away and into a convent at Mans, where she distinguished herself through her virtues, especially through her heavenly patience. SAINT MAMAS, MARTYR   (From the panegyrics composed in his honour by St Basil , hom. 26, and St Gregory Nazianzen , Or. 43. No use is made of the modern Greek acts of his martyrdom.) VENERABLE CAROLOMANNUS (KARLMANN)  The venerable Karlmann [ Carolomannus , Carloman] was the first-born son of Karl Martell and his wife Rotrudis (Chrotrud), and after the death of his father in 741, he came to govern the provinces of Austrasia, Swabia and Thuringia as king, while his brother Pipin (the little one or the short one) received Neustria, Burgundy and Provence.  FOR SIX YEARS KARLMANN RULED THUS For six years Karlmann ruled thus. He supported the building of monasteries at Fulda, Stavelot and Lobbes, and worked closely with  Saint Boniface . By and by, however, he began to strive for higher spiritual victories. SAINT HYACINTH OF SILESIA  Saint Hyacinth was of the ancient house of the counts of Oldrovans, one of the most illustrious of Silesia. His grandfather, the great general against the Tartars, left two sons. Yvo, the younger, was chancellor of Poland and bishop of Cracow. SAINT FEAST DAY 17 AUGUST: ST AMOR OF AMORBACH

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 17th of August WELCOME! SAINT AMOR OF AMORBACH, ABBOT St Amor (or, as he is also called, Amator) came from Scotland according to some, and from Aquitaine in southern France according to others, and had St Pirmin as teacher, who apparently led him to the monastic seclusion.  HE OFFERED HIS SERVICES When St Pirmin preached the teaching of Jesus in the Odenwald region, St Amor, with some other monks, went to see him and offered him his services.  He shone like a benevolent star in those regions and strove, together with the holy Bishop Burchard of Würzburg, to expand the kingdom of God through the conversion of the Odenwald inhabitants. HE FOUNDED THE FAMOUS BENEDICTINE MONASTERY AT AMORBACH St Amor founded the famous Benedictine monastery at Amorbach, which he named, whose former abbots shone on the episcopal see of Verden with their virtues.
