ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL
Saints celebrated on the 19th of April
SAINT EXPEDITUS, MARTYR
Saint Expeditus is always invoked for resolving urgent affairs, which might become more serious if delayed. He is the saint on the spot who responds immediately, but also who demands that what we promise to do be fulfilled immediately without delay.
THE PATRON SAINT FOR URGENT MATTERS WHICH WOULD GET WORSE IF THEY WERE DELAYED
St Expeditus was martyred in Armenia. He was a soldier who led a loose life. But one day God’s grace touched him and he resolved to change his life. It was then that the spirit of evil in the shape of a raven appeared to him saying, “Cras! Cras! Cras!”, a Latin word meaning “Tomorrow! Tomorrow! Tomorrow!”, that is, ‘Do not hurry! Wait until tomorrow! Put off your conversion.’
TODAY!
St Expedius, stepping on the spirit of evil in the shape of the raven, crushed it shouting: “Hodie!”, that is, “Today!” Nothing about putting it off! Now or never! – this is why the Saint is invoked in cases that demand an immediate solution, affairs in which any delay could be damaging.
St Expeditus does not put off his help until tomorrow. He responds right away or at the exact moment we need his help. But he also expects that we do not put off our conversion for tomorrow.
THE NOVENA PRAYER:
(To be said for nine consecutive days)
O God, may the intercession of St Expeditus recommend us to your Divine Goodness so that through his help we may obtain that which our meagre merits cannot. We ask you, Lord, to orient with your grace all our thoughts, words and deeds so that, with courage, fidelity and punctuality, we can at the right time fulfil all our commitments and reach a happy conclusion of our plans.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
O St Expeditus! Encouraged by knowing that you promptly attended all who invoked you at the last minute to help resolve urgent affairs, we ask that you obtain for us the merciful goodness of God, through the intercession of Immaculate Mary: the grace of …………. (now or at the proper time), which with entire submission we ask of the divine will.
Our Father…, Hail Mary..., Glory be…
