Saints celebrated on the 13th of May
MOTHER JULIAN OF NORWICH, MYSTIC
We know very little for certain about Mother Julian of Norwich beyond what she herself tells us in her well-known book, “Revelations of Divine Love”, from which this meditation was taken. She became a nun – very probably a Benedictine – in her late teens in about 1360. Some thirteen years later she fell seriously ill.
HER GAZE BECAME RIVETED ON A CRUCIFIX
As she lay dying, her gaze became riveted on a crucifix which stood at the end of her bed. It was then that she experienced several hours of extraordinary lucidity and received “shewings”, followed by a very vivid temptation of the Devil.
She immediately recovered from her sickness. An hour or two later she received the final vision described in the “Revelations”: the indwelling of the Trinity in every human spirit at one with Christ.
THE INDWELLING OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY IN EVERY HUMAN SPIRIT AT ONE WITH CHRIST
This is a piece by Mother Julian - Meditation on our Lord Jesus Christ:
I am he that is highest
I am he whom you love
I am he whom you like
I am he whom you serve
I am he for whom you have longed
I am he whom you desire
I am all that you can mean
I am all that is all
I am he that Holy Church teaches and preaches
I am he that has shown himself here to you.
