  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 15th of January WELCOME! SAINT MAURUS, HERMIT Saint Maurus (Mortuus-natus) , Hermit, is commemorated on January 15. All the details known of his life story are legendary. His veneration at Huy ( Huium ) on the Meuse ( Mosa ), located between Namur and Liège in Belgium, is not based on historical information that was written down, but on hearsay handed down verbally from generation to generation.  He is reputed to have been the son of a charcoal burner near Andenne ( Andanum ) in the former County of Namur, and to have carried on his father's trade for some time. He then became a hermit and led a holy life. One day, people found him dead, lying on his walking stick. They wanted to bring his body to Andenne, but the horses would not move.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 24th of August WELCOME! SAINT AUREA CHRYSE AND 18 COMPANIONS, MARTYRS In the mid-3rd century,  Saint Aurea (called Chryse in the Greek Meneae ), suffered with the soldiers Censorinus, Felix, Maximus, Herculinus, Venerius, Styracinus, Cenas, Commodus, Hermes, Maurus, Eusebius, Rusticus, Monagreus, Amandinus, Olympius, Cyprius, the tribune Theodorus, and Sabaïnus. They were killed for Christ's sake in Ostia on the Tiber.  Saint Aurea was thrown into the sea with a stone around her neck, but the others, who were guarding the captives and had converted, were beheaded after cruel beatings. In church art, Saint Aurea is represented with a millstone. The Roman Martyrology *, on August 24, mentions only Saint Aurea, but not the names of her Companions.   SAINT MAUR OF KILMAURS Saint Maur (Maurus) was a monk in Scotland in the latter part of the ninth century, whose monastery gave its name to the town of Kilmore [Kilmaurs] (cellula Mauri). Migne*, from whose work we obtained this information, places his death in A.D. 899.
