ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER
Saints celebrated on the 3rd of December
SAINT GERMAN, HERMIT
Saint German [Gorman] (Germanus), commemorated on December 3, was a hermit and brother of Saint Gibrian (Gibrianus). Together with him and five other brothers and three sisters German left his native Ireland. According to Migne*, all of these siblings are venerated as saints in the church.
Once they had arrived in France, Saint Remigius of Reims, who was bishop at the time, directed them to a desolate area on the banks of the Marne for them to live hermits' lives. In complete isolation, away from worldly distractions, they completed their earthly pilgrimage. Their hermitages, located not too far from each other, made it possible for them to pay visits to one another from time to time.
Saint Gibrian was regarded as their superior because he was the eldest of them and a priest.
Migne* lists this holy hermit as Saint German. However, according to the Bollandists* (Maji II. 302), his veneration is uncertain. (Mg.)
