He joined the clergy at a young age and was considered worthy for the episcopal position there because of his virtues. With tireless zeal, he worked for the conversion of the pagans, who were still very numerous in his diocese at that time, and won many for the true faith through the power of his preaching. He also possessed the gift of miracles. Among other things, the honey that was stolen from his garden is said to have turned to pitch for the thief and back into honey when it was returned. He died towards the end of the fifth century (according to other sources, in 825) and was succeeded by Saint Quintian (Quinctian) , who in 511 planned to have his body solemnly raised, but according to  Gregory ...

ST VIRGILIUS, BISHOP OF ARLES - 10 OCTOBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 10th of October WELCOME! SAINT VIRGILIUS, BISHOP OF ARLES Saint Virgilius, commemorated on October 10 and 19, as well as March 5, was initially abbot of the Saint Symphorian  monastery  in Autun. His investiture and residence at the monastery in  Lérins  are uncertain. As prelate, he succeeded  Saint Honoratus , unless Licerius was his immediate predecessor. It is not entirely clear when he ascended to the episcopal see of Arles. When  Saint Gregory the Great  became pope in 590, Virgilius had already held his office for a few years. Even during his lifetime,  Gregory  called him a holy man, adorned with all virtues , and placed the bishops in the realm of King Childebert II under his see. The missionaries who traveled to England were especially commended by the pope to his protection. Indeed, Saint Virgilius was such an extraordinary man that he himself was considered a miracle...

BL. ROSNATA, MARTYR - 14 JULY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY   Saints celebrated on the 14th of July WELCOME! BLESSED ROSNATA, MARTYR Blessed Rosnata, Martyr (July 14, or June 12), was the founder of the Premonstratensian convent of Teplá (Tepla) in Bohemia. (See also  B. Hrosnata , Vol. IV, pp. 773 and 774). To supplement this account, we add a few events from his life. He was a blossoming young man when he accompanied his sister Woislawa to meet her future husband, Duke Otto of Krakow. It happened that during a walk along the banks of the Vistula (Weichsel), he slipped and fell into the river. Boats immediately tried in vain to pull him back in. Then one of his companions jumped into the river and saw a tuft of hair above the water at the spot where he presumed to have sunk. He reached for it and, to his astonishment, pulled the young man from the water still alive. He recounted how  a woman of wondrous beauty held back the water rushing to his mouth with her hand, thus preventing his drownin...

ST ROSINA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR - 11 MARCH

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 11th of March WELCOME! SAINT ROSINA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR The sign at the Rosina Chapel, text translated below¹ Saint Rosina (March 11), is listed as a "virgin and martyr" in an ancient handwritten calendar of saints, albeit without an original source being provided. Unless it was supported by an older martyrology of some authority, this calendar entry would be quite worthless to us. Further research led us to a certain list compiled according to Nadasius and Sautel ( annus sacer ), also handwritten, There, Saint Rosina is mentioned as just a "virgin" (rather than "virgin and martyr"). Upon seeking out the sources the latter list was supposed to be based upon, we discovered that she could not be found in Nadasius ' work; whether she is mentioned by Sautel , we do not know, as his book was not available to us. We cannot confirm the assumption that the name is an abbreviation of Euphrosyna , partly...

This habit remained in Albert's family for 280 years until this treasure came into the possession of the Friars Minor in Florence, where it is still located. This was the very same habit that  Saint Francis  wore when he received the  stigmata on Mount Alverno. (Information from  Stadler 's Complete...

RUDOLPH OF LUXEMBOURG, ABBOT

WELCOME! RUDOLPH OF LUXEMBOURG, ABBOT Rudolph of Luxembourg ( Rudolphus ) was Abbot of Saint Vanne in Verdun [the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Vanne de Verdun, founded in 952].  A pious and devoutly religious man, he could not bring himself to side with the rebellious emperor and the false pope he sided with, as his bishop Dietrich [Thierry] had done. Rudolph instead remained steadfastly loyal to the legitimate  Pope Gregory VII . For this reason he left his monastery and initially went to Dijon, and later to the Abbey of Flavigny in the Diocese of Autun, where he died at the end of the 11th century. He is mentioned in Migne's * appendix without further comment.  (Information from  Stadler 's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints,  Volume  5, Augsburg, 1882, p. 153) *A hagiography source used by the authors  Stadler's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints - Sources and Abbreviations Sources of these articles (in the original German): books.google.co.uk, ...
