Saints celebrated on the 8th of May
SAINT GIBRIAN, PRIEST
Scottish or Irish by birth, Saint Gibrian (Gibrianus) came to France towards the end of the fifth century during the reign of King Clovis. He travelled there to be able to serve God more devoutly in the wilderness.
On this journey he was accompanied by his six brothers Helanus (7 October), Trasanus (Tersan)(7 February), Germanus and Veranus (3 December), Abranus (25 July), Petranus, and his three sisters Francla, Promptia and Posenna, all of which are, according to Migne*, venerated as "saints".
Arriving in the diocese of Reims, Bishop Remigius offered them secluded places not very far apart, so that we could easily visit each other. Saint Gibrian, who as a priest was the head of this hermit family, took up residence at Cole, where his brothers and sisters often visited him.
His conduct and his proclamation of the divine word he led many inhabitants of those regions, of whom many were still heathens at that time, to the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. For this reason his memory is still blessed there, as well as in the diocese of Chalons-sur-Marne (Catalaunum), in which, according to Migne*, there is a village called Saint Gibria. He is thought to have died in the year 509.
Saint Gibrian is also commemorated on April 16 and September 17.
