A Carmelite monastery was founded in the same town in 1240 which exposed Jane to the Carmelite lifestyle and spirituality. THE FIRST THIRD ORDER CARMELITE In 1265 when Saint Simon Stock , a 13th century reformer of the Carmelites, was passing through Toulouse, Jane met him and requested to be affiliated with the Carmelites. Simon agreed and Jane became the first Third Order Carmelite. Blessed Jane is considered to be a founder of the Carmelite tertiary order and is considered to be its first member. She died in 1286. Abdas had done ill in destroying the temple, but did well in refusing to rebuild it; for nothing can make it lawful to contribute to any act of idolatry, or to the building a temple, as Theodoret observes. BLESSED DODO  Dodo, a devout young dutchman, frequented the churches, fasted, assisted the poor, and obeyed his parents. Following his marriage, he, his wife, and his widowed mother all decided to enter religious life. Dodo received his abbot’s permission to live as a hermit. HE HEARD A VOICE FROM THE CROSS He ultimately journeyed to Asch, Netherlands, finding there an abandoned sanctuary with two images, a crucifix and a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. While praying before the crucifix, Dodo heard a voice from the cross telling him that he was to settle in Asch. There he spent the rest of his life, rising daily at midnight for the office of matins and continuing his prayers until the morning Mass. In adoration he offered to God five hundred genuflections every day. Dodo’s prayers wrought miraculous cures. He is called a martyr because he patiently endured persecution, shame and banishment for the expansion and freedom of the Church.  HE WAS EXILED Elected in 1236, he also lived as a bishop like a religious, having previously belonged to the Premonstratensian order. He had constant struggles with Duke Albert (Albrecht) until he was exiled to Wismar, where Duke Johann, known as the theologian, admitted him.  HIS HOLY DEATH His death took place in 1250. In the fourteenth century he was canonised. His name is derived from the Old German words Bert, Bercht, Brecht, meaning brilliant ; according to Schwenck his name means brilliant and mild.  THE FIRST PRIOR GENERAL OF THE CARMELITES St Berthold was first prior general of the Carmelites. He was born in Limoges and was either the brother of Bishop Adamatus in Puy or of the patriarch Heimericus of Antioch, who appointed him prior of the Carmelites in 1121 (according to others 1141 or even 1181).  HIS HAPPY DEATH He died in 1188, and his name is inserted in the general Roman Martyrology, and in that for the Discalced Carmelites.
