ST AMANDUS, ABBOT OF LÉRINS - 18 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 18th of November WELCOME! SAINT AMANDUS, ABBOT OF LÉRINS Saint Amandus, Abbot of  Lérins  in France, succeeded  Saint Aigulph in the leadership of this monastery in the year 676;  Aigulph  had been killed by wayward monks on account of his strictness. This crime plunged the monastery into utter disorder, and at that precise time an abbot like Saint Amandus was needed - one who was ablaze with zeal for the salvation of souls, while combining prudence and piety with firmness of character. He did indeed restore the monastery to its former flourishing state and presided over 3,700 monks. SAINT EUCHERIUS, ABBOT Saint Eucherius was a saintly abbot of  Lérins Abbey , under whom monastic discipline flourished particularly well . (Lech., El.) The Roman Martyrology states:  "The same day, the birthday of the holy martyrs Aigulphus, abbot of Lérins , and the monks, his companions, who, after their tongues were cut off, and their eyes plucked out, were killed with the sword."   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 18th of November SAINT ANSELM, ABBOT OF LÉRINS Saint Anselm was abbot at the monastery of  Lérins in France. He is mentioned in the Benedictine martyrologies among those saintly abbots under whom religious discipline in this monastery flourished in a very excellent way. CHONO, ABBOT OF LÉRINS  Chono (Chononus, Chononius, Bono), memorial: May 29, was abbot on the island of  Lérins  or St Honorat, who was so famous for his holiness that Saint Gregory the Great wrote letters to him. He lived around the year 600. ST NAZARIUS, ABBOT - 18 NOVEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 18th of November   WELCOME! SAINT NAZARIUS, ABBOT  [Saint Nazarius was the] fourteenth abbot of the monastery of  Lérins , probably sometime during the reign of the Merovingian Clotaire II, 584 - 629.  He successfully attacked the remnants of heathendom on the southern coast of France, overthrew a sanctuary of Venus near Cannes, and founded on its site a convent for women, which was destroyed by the  Saracens in the eighth century. His name is inscribed on the calendar of saints of the French Church, on 18 November.
