  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER Saints celebrated on the 18th of November WELCOME! SAINT AMANDUS, ABBOT OF LÉRINS Saint Amandus, Abbot of  Lérins  in France, succeeded  Saint Aigulph in the leadership of this monastery in the year 676;  Aigulph  had been killed by wayward monks on account of his strictness. This crime plunged the monastery into utter disorder, and at that precise time an abbot like Saint Amandus was needed - one who was ablaze with zeal for the salvation of souls, while combining prudence and piety with firmness of character. He did indeed restore the monastery to its former flourishing state and presided over 3,700 monks. He is mentioned in the Benedictine martyrologies among those saintly abbots under whom religious discipline in this monastery flourished in a very excellent way. SAINT NAZARIUS, ABBOT  [Saint Nazarius was the] fourteenth abbot of the monastery of  Lérins , probably sometime during the reign of the Merovingian Clotaire II, 584 - 629.  He successfully attacked the remnants of heathendom on the southern coast of France, overthrew a sanctuary of Venus near Cannes, and founded on its site a convent for women, which was destroyed by the  Saracens in the eighth century. His name is inscribed on the calendar of saints of the French Church, on 18 November.
