VENERABLE SEBASTIAN VIEIRA, MISSIONARY AND MARTYR
Venerable Sebastian Vieira (Sebastianus) was a Portuguese Jesuit who, at the age of 63 (after having belonged to the Society of Jesus for 45 years and worked as a missionary for 32 years in India and Japan, with tireless zeal and marvellous devotion for the spread of the Faith) was martyred on June 6, 1634. He suffered with five other companions, enduring the torture of the pit and finally being burned to death.
