ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY
Saints celebrated on the 27th of January
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
ST EMMERIUS, ABBOT
Saint Emmerius ([Santo Emério de Bañoles,] Emerius, Emereus) was abbot of Bagnoles, bishopric of Girone in Catalonia.
HE WAS BORN IN FRANCE
He was born in France of parents who were already well advanced in years and were not expecting any more offspring.
HE AIMED FOR HEAVEN
While his delighted parents regarded him as the future progenitor of their family, the pious youth Emmerius aimed for heaven, fled from his father's house, and intended to live in solitude with a like-minded companion named Patricus.
HE GAVE THE ARMY WONDERFUL HELP
Around that time it happened that a prince (probably Charlemagne) marched against the Saracens, taking Emmerius with him. He followed and gave the army wonderful help.
HE BUILT A MONASTERY AT BAGNOLES
On his return he built a monastery at Bagnoles, where soon many gathered around him, who were - much helped by Emmerius' holy conduct - marvellously inflamed with love for the heavenly and the eternal.
HIS MOTHER JOINED HIM
After the death of her husband, his mother Candida also joined him, who had found him after a long search. She never left him and ended her days in a cell near the convent, blissfully in the Lord.
A LIGHT NEAR AND FAR
God was with Emmerius and bestowed on him the gift of miracles. With this and his angelic conduct, he shone as a beneficent light near and far, until the Lord called his faithful servant to him. He was buried in the monastery church.
