ST SERENA, MARTYR - 30 JANUARY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 30th of January WELCOME! SAINT SERENA, MARTYR Saint Serena (feast day  January 30 , or alternatively June 25 ) was a martyr whose relics were transferred from Spoleto (not  Cordoba ) to Metz in the year 970 by Bishop Theodoric I and interred in the Church of the Mother of God. Accounts of her life and suffering are based on pious tradition. It is said that, following the death of her husband, she dedicated the remainder of her life exclusively to God and to serving her fellow Christians who were poor, sick, or imprisoned; she also buried the bodies of many holy martyrs. When the judge of Spoleto, named Lucius, learned of this, she was arrested and, after enduring many cruel tortures, gave up her spirit. This occurred around the year 291, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. Her elevatio (the ceremonial raising or translation of her relics) is commemorated on  June 25  (according to  Canisius *)...

ST PAVACIUS, BISHOP OF LE MANS - 24 JULY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 24th of July WELCOME! SAINT PAVACIUS, BISHOP OF LE MANS Saint Pavacius - who is also called Panatius  by some sources, or Pavas in French - is considered the third Bishop of Le Mans (Mans) ( apud Cenomanos ) in France; he was ordained on August 22, 303, governed the Church of Le Mans for 43 years, and died on August 24, 346¹. As an assistant to Saint Julian he converted the city and the surrounding region - which was still largely tainted by pagan abominations - to Christ, introduced the communal life among the clergy, and performed numerous miracles. His holy relics were translated to the Church of Saint Julianus during the episcopate of Bishop Aldricus of Le Mans. A portion of his relics was brought to Paderborn in 836, along with those of Saints  Gundanisolus and Liborius . ST BASILIDES AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS - 10 JUNE

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 10th of June WELCOME! SAINT BASILIDES AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS Encyclopedia of Saints   According to the Roman Martyrology * , Saint Basilides (commemorated on  June 10 ) was a martyr who suffered death in Rome under Emperor Aurelian and the City Prefect Plato, alongside Saints Cripus (Cripodes), Mandalis (Mandal), and twenty others. However, according to the Bollandists *, this Saint Basilides is identical to the one listed next ; they argue that the names of his companions in [their copy of the] Roman Martyrology * are recorded incorrectly - specifically, that " Tripolis " should read " Tripus " and " Magdaletes " should read " Mandalis " - implying that Saint Magdaletes , who was martyred at Tripolis, has been erroneously linked with Saint Basilides.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 3rd of July WELCOME! SAINT SERENA, MARTYR OF TARSUS Saint Serena - commemorated on  July 3 - is thought to have been a martyr at Tarsus. ST AUGUSTALIS, CONFESSOR - 7 OCTOBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER   Saints celebrated on the 7th of October WELCOME! SAINT AUGUSTALIS, CONFESSOR Encyclopedia of Saints   Saint Augustalis, commemorated on October 7, was, according to some hagiographers, Bishop of Bourges in France; however, the  Bollandists * consider this incorrect, as no bishop of that name appears in the list of bishops for that diocese. As the same source points out, a case of mistaken identity is involved here - either with the holy priest and abbot  Augustus (October 7), or he is the same person as one of the previously mentioned saints named  Augustalis :  Saint Augustalis  or  Saint Augustalis . (Information from Stadler 's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints, Volume  1, Augsburg, 1858, p. 347) *A hagiography source used by the authors  Stadler's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints - Sources and Abbreviations PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Augustali...

GOSWIN, ABBOT - 26 DECEMBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 26th of December WELCOME! GOSWIN, ABBOT Goswin ( Goswinus , Godevinus ), Abbot, is commemorated on December 26; alternatively April 15). In the Elenchus *, this Goswin is listed on December 26 as a  Cistercian  abbot. He is likely identical to the  Godwin whom the  Bollandists * mention among their Praetermissi on April 15 (II. 370). According to Lechner * - who lists him in the index as Godewin or Goswin but refers to him in the text as Godevinus and accords him the title "godly" - he was Abbot of Anchin ( Aquiscinctum ) in Hainaut. This was a  Cistercian  monastery situated on an island in the River Scarpe near Douai; it belonged to the Congregation of Cluny, and it was there that he had taken the monastic habit. After his election as abbot, he lived just as one of the brethren, the only difference being that he led them by example in all monastic observances. He cared lovingly for th...

ST AUGUSTALIS, BISHOP OF ARLES - 7 SEPTEMBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 7th of September WELCOME! SAINT AUGUSTALIS, BISHOP OF ARLES Saint Augustalis, commemorated on September 7, was a Bishop of Arles in France who lived between the 3rd century and the middle of the 4th. He is to be clearly distinguished from the later Bishop Augustalis , who attended the Council of Orange. The  Roman Martyrology * states simply, under September 7, that he is venerated in Gaul - without specifying his episcopal see. This is likely because the martyrology's author, Baronius* , accidentally mixed up these two bishops. Therefore he could not possibly assign this see to our saint, given that during the latter's lifetime , a certain Hilarius signed the acts of that council as Bishop of Arles. (Information from Stadler 's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints, Volume  1, Augsburg, 1858, p. 347) *A hagiography source used by the authors  Stadler's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints - Sources and Abbreviation...
