ST ADA, ABBESS
Saint Ada (Adrehild): her name is derived from the old German word for "beauty."
St Ada was previously a nun at the convent of St Mary at Soissons and later abbess at the convent of St Julian at Mans.
She proved to be a great benefactor to other monasteries, especially that of St Marimin, to whom she gave, among other things, a book of the Gospels written on parchment in gold letters, bound in gold and richly adorned with precious stones. She died in 690. Her relics were raised in 836. (Bened. Annal.)
PRAYER:
May the intercession of blessed Ada commend us to you, so that through her merits we may obtain that which we cannot accomplish by our own. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
