WELCOME!

BLESSED JOSEPH CEBULA, PRIEST AND MARTYR

Fr Joseph (Józef) Cebula was killed on May 9, but his feast day is on April 28. Born March 23, 1902 in Malnia, Poland, Joseph Cebula suffered tuberculosis as a youth and was declared incurable. Most wonderfully, he recovered. Making a pilgrimage to an Oblate shrine afterwards, he shared his story with Fr Jan Pawolik. Fr Pawolik suggested that he study at the minor seminary at Krotoszyn, which Joseph did. In 1921, the young man began his novitiate at Markowice and also commenced his studies for the priesthood. Fr Cebula was ordained in the early summer of 1927. Afterwards, he taught seminarians and was appointed novice master at Markowice in 1937. In October 1939, after the onset of the Second World War, the 100 member community at Markowice was placed under house arrest, and set to work as farm labourers. On April 7, 1941, Fr Cebula was taken to the concentration camp Mauthausen-Gusen in Austria and forced to hard labour. On May 9, Father Cebula said, "It is not you who are in charge. God will judge you." He was shot dead because of this utterance, and his body was cremated. Fr Cebula was beatified by Pope John Paul II on June 13, 1999 as one of the 108 Martyrs of World War II.

The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me; it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. THE AUGUST 13 EVENTS On August 13, the children were in jail at Ourem. The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder. He was master of arts in one of our universities; but going abroad to Douay, in Flanders, was received into the English college there, 1576, and made priest in 1577; and the year following sent upon the mission. Here he remained in the English college till 1580, when he returned into England, and was not long after apprehended: for I find by a printed diary of things transacted in the Tower of London from 1580 till 1585, that on the 5th of December, 1580, Luke Kirby, Thomas Cottam , and other priests, were brought to the Tower from other prisons; and that these two, on the 10th...
