Saints celebrated on the 3rd of May
SAINT AHMED THE CALLIGRAPHER, MARTYR
Saint Ahmed [also known as Christodoulos] was raised as a Muslim in 17th-century Constantinople. Calligrapher and copyist in the royal chancery. He lived as an unmarried man, but due to his position at court he had a concubine. This lady was a slave, originally from Russia, and a Christian.
HE BEGAN HIS CATECHUMENATE
Little by little, she brought him to a desire for the faith, and he began his catechumenate. However, before he could be baptised he was betrayed by another calligrapher who spotted him in public in the company of Christians.
HE WAS MARTYRED FOR HIS DESIRE TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN
Ahmed was arrested, imprisoned without food for a week, and then murdered for his desire to convert. His martyr's death by decapitation took place on May 3, 1682.
