ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER
Saints celebrated on the 8th of November
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
ST DEUSDEDIT, POPE
(Adeodatus I) His date of birth is unknown. Saint Deusdedit was consecrated pope on October 19 (November 13) 615; he died November 8 (December 3) 618. He was distinguished for his charity and zeal.
HE WAS DISTINGUISHED BY HIS CHARITY AND ZEAL
St Deusdedit encouraged and supported the clergy, who were impoverished in consequence of the political troubles of the time; and when his diocese was visited by a violent earthquake and the terrible scourge of leprosy he set an heroic example by his efforts to relieve the suffering.
HE SET A HEROIC EXAMPLE BY HIS EFFORTS TO RELIEVE THE SUFFERING
The few decretals ascribed to him are unauthenticated. He is said to have been the first pope to use leaden seals (bullae) for pontifical documents. One dating from his reign is still preserved, the obverse of which represents the Good Shepherd in the midst of His sheep, with the letters Alpha and Omega underneath, while the reverse bears the inscription: Deusdedit Papae. His feast occurs November 8.
