SAINT LAETUS, HERMIT
Saint Laetus (French: St-Lié) was, according to Butler* and Migne*, born in the Berry region and in his youth tended his father's flocks.
After some time he entered a monastery under Abbot Triacius (St-Trièce). From there he went to the monastery of Micy (Miciacum) or St Mesmin (S. Maximini) near Orleans (Aurelianum), where he met St Avitus.
Subsequently, both took to the solitude of Sologne (Solonia, Secalanula). When St Avitus returned to his monastery, St Laetus withdrew to the Forest Inatoire at Beauce, which was subsequently named Forêt-aux-Loges. The reputation of his holiness attracted many hermits to him; even Triacius paid him visits.
Laetus died in 534. Later a chapel was built over his tomb, which was gradually joined by a sizeable village that bears his name (St-Lié). His relics are buried in the Collegiate Church of Piuviers, in the Bishopric of Orleans. His name is also found in Elenchus*. The Roman Martyrology* calls him "Priest and Confessor."
