PAUL RIOIN, MISSIONARY

Paul (Paulus) Rioin, a Japanese-born gentleman, was a temporary coadjutor of the Jesuit Order. A preacher for many years, he was banished from his homeland during the persecution and died a short time later in Manila [Philippines] on February 17, 1615 at the age of 64 as a result of the travel difficulties and the harsh climate, which was different from that of his homeland.
