SAINT INNOCENT, BISHOP OF MERIDA
Saint Innocent (Innocentius) lived in 7th century Spain. He was the 14th Bishop of Merida (Augusta Emerita [today's Archdiocese Mérida-Badajoz]).
He is particularly remembered for his prayers at a time of great drought; he asked God for fruitful rain and his request was granted.
During the reign of Ferdinand the Catholic (1479-1516) and Isabella, Saint Innocent's mortal remains were rediscovered in the church of Saint Eulalia in Merida. The last solemn raising of his relics took place in 1632. (IV. 99.)
