WELCOME!

SAINT ALBERT, BISHOP OF LODI

Lodi Cathedral

Saint Albert (Albertus), Bishop of Lodi (Laude Pompeia) in northern Italy, was born in Ripalta (Ripa Alta) in the Diocese of Milan, into the Quadrelli family. A pious priest, asked to pray for Albert's mother, who was in mortal danger at his birth, prophesied that her baby would one day become a great man, which indeed came to pass. He grew up in the fear of God and in all virtue, and even in his youth was exceedingly charitable towards the poor.

At the time of the disputes between Pope Alexander III and Emperor Frederick I, we find him as provost in his native Ripalta, from where he was expelled at the urging of Archbishop Galdinus de la Sala, who was decidedly on the side of Pope Alexander III. He was elected bishop by the Lodensians on March 29, 1168.

As such, he administered his diocese with an apostolic spirit, shining a holy example before his clergy, guiding them with the best precepts, firmly urging them to break with the antipope Paschal III and join the legitimate Pope Alexander III. He attended the Lateran Council convened by this pope and died soon after his return from Rome, on July 4, 1179. He was buried in the cathedral and glorified by God through many miracles. In 1588, his relics were solemnly raised by Bishop Ludwig Taberna and placed on the cathedral's altar of the Holy Trinity for public veneration.

The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me; it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. THE AUGUST 13 EVENTS On August 13, the children were in jail at Ourem. The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder. Then, according to an eyewitness: “Right after the thunder came a flash, and immediately we all noticed a little cloud, very white, beautiful and bright,...

He was master of arts in one of our universities; but going abroad to Douay, in Flanders, was received into the English college there, 1576, and made priest in 1577; and the year following sent upon the mission. Where he had not been long before he again went abroad, and travelled to Rome, partly for devotion, and partly for further improvement in learning. Here he remained in the English college till 1580, when he returned into England, and was not long after apprehended: for I find by a printed diary of things transacted in the Tower of London from 1580 till 1585, that on the 5th of December, 1580, Luke Kirby, Thomas Cottam , and other priests, were brought to the Tower from other prisons; and that these two, on the 10th...
