ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 30th of July WELCOME! SAINT URSUS, BISHOP OF AUXERRE, CONFESSOR Saint Ursus (July 30, July 29), Confessor and Bishop of Auxerre, was the tenth (eleventh) in the order of succession. The Gallia Christiana * and Ferrarius * list him on July 29. For a long time, Saint Ursus lived in great austerity in a hermit's  cell near Saint Amator 's Church. Once, when a violent fire broke out in the city, it was miraculously quenched. On this occasion the people had become acquainted with his merits; therefore, when the holy bishop  Censurius departed hence, Ursus was taken out of his cell and placed on the episcopal chair. He ruled his diocese for six years and four months and died on July 30 at the beginning of the 6th century, around the year 508, in the 72nd year of his life.  Saint Ursus is mentioned in the Roman Martyrology *, and Baronius * in his work remarks ( notae ) that he co-signed a synodal letter sent by some...

He arrived at the time of Saint Remigius, bishop of Reims, having landed there alongside six brothers and six sisters, all of whom, according to Migne, are venerated as saints in the church. He then lived in a hermitage on the Marne, which  Bishop Remigius  had instructed, in strict penance and the service of God, until his holy passing.  In the life of Saint Gibrian, whose feast is celebrated on May 8, the  Bollandists * mention that they could not establish whether Abranus enjoyed veneration by the church, which is why they count him among the praetermissi . According to Migne, this  Saint Abranus is celebrated on December 3. (Information from  Stadler 's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints,  Volume  1, Augsbur...

BL. HUMBALD, BISHOP OF AUXERRE - 20 OCTOBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 20th of October WELCOME! BLESSED HUMBALD, BISHOP OF AUXERRE Coin, back and front, Humbaud, 1095-1120, Berry (France) Blessed Humbald ( Humbaldus , French: Humbaud ), was the first bishop of Auxerre of this name, although some sources erroneously list him as the second, mistakenly interpreting the old handwritten manuscript's entry regarding Vibald [ Wibaldus (A.D. 879-887)] as Humbaldus . In order of succession Humbald was the 53rd Bishop of Auxerre (Antissiodorum) . He bore his father's name, Humbaldus, his mother was called Adela. The year of his birth is not explicitly stated. The  Neo-Bollandist Victor de Buck * reckons that this holy bishop first saw the light of day between the years 1040 - 1050. In 1076 he was dean of the cathedral chapter. He received a good Christian education under the supervision of Bishop Heribertus (1040-1052). Afterwards, Humbald progressed through all the degrees of priesthood and ca...

SAINT GERMANUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS - 2 MAY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 2nd of May WELCOME! SAINT GERMANUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS Nothing much is known about this Saint Germanus except his name. However, he definitely existed. It is certain that he is not identical with the  other martyr of that name who is commemorated on the same day. This fact is ascertained by the names of his companions - all the ancient manuscripts agree on those names. His fellow martyrs were called  Celestinus, Felix, Cetinus, Urbanus, Bellicus (Bellacus, Hellacus, Bellapus) and Privata. When and where they obtained the martyr's crown is unknown. Relics of them are kept in Bologna. Perhaps this location coincides with their place of martyrdom (I. 179). SAINT GERMAN, HERMIT - 3 DECEMBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 3rd of December WELCOME! SAINT GERMAN, HERMIT Saint German [Gorman ] (Germanus), commemorated on December 3, was a hermit and brother of Saint Gibrian  (Gibrianus). Together with him and five other brothers and three sisters German left his native Ireland. According to Migne *, all of these siblings are venerated as saints in the church. Once they had arrived in France, Saint Remigius of Reims , who was bishop at the time, directed them to a desolate area on the banks of the Marne for them to live hermits' lives. In complete isolation, away from worldly distractions, they completed their earthly pilgrimage. Their hermitages, located not too far from each other, made it possible for them to pay visits to one another from time to time.  Saint Gibrian was regarded as their superior because he was the eldest of them and a priest.  Migne * lists this holy hermit as Saint German. However, according to the ...
