RUDOLPH OF LUXEMBOURG, ABBOT
Rudolph of Luxembourg (Rudolphus) was Abbot of Saint Vanne in Verdun [the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Vanne de Verdun, founded in 952].
A pious and devoutly religious man, he could not bring himself to side with the rebellious emperor and the false pope he sided with, as his bishop Dietrich [Thierry] had done. Rudolph instead remained steadfastly loyal to the legitimate Pope Gregory VII. For this reason he left his monastery and initially went to Dijon, and later to the Abbey of Flavigny in the Diocese of Autun, where he died at the end of the 11th century. He is mentioned in Migne's* appendix without further comment.
