In the Elenchus *, this Goswin is listed on December 26 as a Cistercian abbot. He is likely identical to the Godwin whom the Bollandists * mention among their Praetermissi on April 15 (II. 370). According to Lechner * - who lists him in the index as Godewin or Goswin but refers to him in the text as Godevinus and accords him the title "godly" - he was Abbot of Anchin ( Aquiscinctum ) in Hainaut. This was a Cistercian monastery situated on an island in the River Scarpe near Douai; it belonged to the Congregation of Cluny, and it was there that he had taken the monastic habit.
