ST MARY OF VERONA, VIRGIN - 1 AUGUST

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 1st of August WELCOME! SAINT MARY OF VERONA, VIRGIN 📷 FiniaM Saint Mary, Virgin (August 1) is venerated in Verona under the title "the Comforter." In the church bearing her name, where her relics repose, her image appears on the high altar alongside that of the Mother of God, the true "Comforter of the Afflicted." In her left hand, she holds a pair of scales: one pan contains images representing "duorum corporum" (two bodies), while the other holds a ring; in her right hand, she holds a lily. The latter signifies her virginal dignity, while the former alludes to the translation of the holy martyrs  Firmus and Rusticus (from Capra in Istria) - an event brought about, according to legend, through her intervention. For this purpose, she offered a large quantity of gold - consisting mostly of rings and jewellery - with which she intended to weigh the holy bodies against the metal. Yet, miraculou...
