ST TRUDO - 23 NOVEMBER

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER

Saints celebrated on the 23rd of November

WELCOME!

SAINT TRUDO, APOSTLE OF HASBEIN

Saint Trudo is the Apostle of Hasbein in Brabant; he died in A.D. 698 (693).

He was the son of Blessed Adela of the family of the dukes of Austrasia. Devoted from his earliest youth to the service of God, Trudo came to St Remaclus, Bishop of Liege, and was sent by him to Chlordulph, Bishop of Metz.

Here he received his education at the Church of St Stephen, to which he always showed a strong affection and donated his later foundation.

HE RETURNED TO HIS NATIVE DISTRICT

After his ordination he returned to his native district, preached the Gospel, and built a church at Sarchinium, on the River Cylindria. It was blessed about 656 by St Theodard, Bishop of Liege, in honour of SS. Quintinus and Remigius.

Disciples gathered about him and in course of time the abbey arose.

The convent for women, established by him at Odeghem near Bruges, later also bore his name.

HE WAS BURIED IN THE CHURCH ERECTED BY HIMSELF

After his death he was buried in the church erected by himself. A translation of his relics, together with those of St Eucherius, Bishop of Orleans, who had died there in exile in 743, was made in 880 by Bishop France of Liege.

On account of the threatened inroads of the Normans the relics were later hidden in a subterranean crypt.

HIS RELICS WERE LOST AFTER THE GREAT CONFLAGRATION

After the great conflagration of 1085 they were lost, but again discovered in 1169, and on August 11 of that year an official recognition and translation was made by Bishop Rudolph III. On account of these translations the dates 5 and 12 August and 1 and 2 September are noted in the martyrologies.

AN OLD OFFICE OF THE SAINT IN VERSE

The "Analecta Bollandiana" give an old office of the saint in verse. The life was written by Donatus, a deacon of Metz, at the order of his bishop, Angibram (769-91). It was rewritten by Theodoric, Abbot of St-Trond (who died in A.D. 1107).

PRAYER:

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Trudo may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

FATIMA APPARITION - AUGUST 13 The Fatima Children “BUT IN THE END MY IMMACULATE HEART WILL TRIUMPH.” But in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me; it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. THE AUGUST 13 EVENTS On August 13, the children were in jail at Ourem. The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder. Then, according to an eyewitness: “Right after the thunder came a flash, and immediately we all noticed a little cloud, very white, beautiful and bright,...

ST BERTHA OF AVENAY, ABBESS AND MARTYR - 1 MAY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 1st of May WELCOME! ST BERTHA OF AVENAY, ABBESS AND MARTYR The name Bertha (Berta) is derived from the Old German  bercht, brecht, bert etc., meaning shiny, splendid.  Saint Bertha, a martyr and abbess of Avenay (Aveniacum) in the diocese of Rheims, was descended from a noble family. Married to  St Gumbert (April 29), she obtained her husband's consent to join the monastic life. She then built the aforementioned monastery of Avenay. Following an apparition of the Blessed Virgin, she received many nuns there. Once, when Bertha was silently praying for water for her monastery, St Peter appeared to her and showed her a place where there was a spring, which then began to flow into the monastery in a running stream (ex quo fonte mox rivus egressus secutus est eam ad coenobium remeantem).  Finally, towards the end of the 7th century, she was killed by her stepsons - for what reason is not specified, perhaps in ...
