Saints celebrated on the 2nd of May
BLESSED CANDIDUS FURLONGUS, RELIGIOUS
Blessed Candidus, surnamed Furlongus, a monk of the Nucale monastery in Spain, was from a noble family in Ireland and had been carefully trained in his youth.
HE BECAME A MONK
In order to be able to practise his religion, which was persecuted in Ireland, more freely, he crossed over to France, made a pilgrimage to Rome and from there came to Spain, where he took the habit of the order in the monastery of Nucale. Ordained a priest, he was sent to Ireland to help the abused believers there as best he could.
HE PREACHED THE TRUTH
There he preached the truth with such force that the heretics in charge were furious, but the believers welcomed in him a new ray of salvation. Everyone flocked to see him, to hear him, and to receive the blessing from him. The number of those who converted to his sermons is given as 4,000. He died in 1616 and was glorified by many miracles after death. According to our source, the feast of his death is celebrated on May 2. [In some calendars he is mentioned on December 15.]
