Saints celebrated on the 19th of May
SERVANT OF GOD MELCHIOR, DOMINICAN
This servant of God was born in 1511 at Mosciska in the district of Przemysl of respectable parents. They sent the boy to study in Krakow.
HIS SPIRITUALITY
After he had completed these with excellent success, Melchior entered the Dominican order, in which he excelled by his popular and moving sermons for God's holy and apostolic Church. But he did not neglect his own salvation, either. He was particularly devoted to prayer. In this respect it is remarkable that he used to pray the Officium defunctorum twice a day, once for the poor souls, the other time for himself. In sufferings and persecutions he always said: Benedictus Deus, praise be to God!
HIS HUMILITY
Four times he was elected Provincial of Poland, three times he rejected the episcopal dignity. He considered himself unworthy of being buried with his confreres, so he asked to be buried outside their common burial ground. His holy death occurred on May 19, 1591.
