Saints celebrated on the 4th of May
SAINT VENERIUS, BISHOP OF MILAN
Saint Venerius, a holy bishop of Milan, had been a deacon under St Ambrose. He followed St Simplicianus in the bishopric. He conducted his pastoral ministry with the greatest diligence and tireless zeal.
AN EXAMPLE TO EVERYONE
He was an example to everyone in all virtues. At the same time, he worked through words and through his writings, as well as through personal effort and sacrifice, for doctrinal unity and the peace of the whole Church.
The afflictions of St John Chrysostom particularly affected him; he was among those who comforted and supported him, one of the first.
HIS MIRACLES
He died after eight years of administration of the diocese in 409. After his death he performed many miracles. He was succeeded by St Marulus. St Charles Borromeo had his holy relics transferred to the cathedral church. His name is inserted in the Roman Martyrology on May 4.
