ST BARSES, BISHOP OF EDESSA
(January 30 and October 15.) Saint Barses or Barsus - the Roman Martyrology calls him Barsen - was bishop of Edessa in Mesopotamia.
He was distinguished by his wonderful healings, but had to endure a lot from the Arian-minded Emperor Valens (364-375).
He was banished to the outermost borders of the empire because of his adherence to the Catholic faith.

PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Barsen, your blessed bishop, may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
