LINTBERT, ABBOT OF HIRSCHAU
Lintbert (Lintbertus), also Ludbertus, Liutpertus, was the first abbot of the Hirschau monastery. According to Bucelin* (Suppl.) he came from Swabia and was the brother of St Bruno, abbot of the Hirschfeld abbey.
From his youth he was very docile and of great piety. Initially a monk at the Fulda monastery, he came as abbot to Hirschau around A.D. 838 with 15 monks in tow.
In this new role he distinguished himself through many virtues, but especially through his learning, which is why many sought out Hirschau - to hear the learned abbot. Under him, the monastery's fortune grew, as did the number of brothers. Rabanus was his teacher for some time, and Lintbert was not really lagging behind him in terms of learning. He died in A.D. 854 in the 76th year of his life. Bucelin* calls him venerable. The Bollandists* list him on June 11 (among the Praetermissi).
