HUGO, BISHOP OF AUXERRE
Hugo (commemorated on October 10 and January 21), from Macon (Matisconensis), Bishop of Auxerre, died c. 1151 at Pontigny. The Bollandists* list him as the first abbot of Pontigny, later bishop of Auxerre and as a friend and companion of
Migne* ranks him among the “blessed,” as does Henriquez*. Bucelin* calls him "Saint Hugo," but Saussayus* just gives him the title "pious" because (as he says) Hugo never enjoyed public veneration.
