Saints celebrated on the 19th of May
WELCOME!
BLESSED JOHN OF CETINA
John of Cetina (Johannes a Cetina) was a Franciscan priest. Along with the lay brother Peter de Duefias (Petrus a Duennas) he was imprisoned in 1397 in Granada by the Moorish king Bambalva. Because of their Christian faith the Muslims tortured them many times, and finally beheaded them. According to Hub. Men.*, they are also listed in the records as John Laurentius de Calathauto, the other as Peter Toletanus. Pope Benedict XIV (De canonix. l. 3. c. 17. no. 8) states that the Minorites John e Cetina and Peter e Duennas came to Granada and, because they steadfastly refused to convert to Mohammedanism, died for Christ and were venerated as martyrs by the Christians. (IV. 295.)
