WELCOME!

SAINT MARIA TRONCATTI, VIRGIN

On February 16, 1883, Maria Troncatti was born in Corteno Golgi, Brescia, to a humble farming family. Early on, she learned hard work, deep faith, and tender love for others. The Salesian Bulletin that reached her village opened her heart to the joy of mission, awakening her call to consecrated life. After some hesitation, her father blessed her decision, and in 1908 Maria professed her vows as a Daughter of Mary Help of Christians. From the very beginning, she offered her life with the spirit of service, trusting that all was in God’s hands.

Her time as a Red Cross nurse during World War I prepared her for the mission God was quietly shaping in her heart. In the midst of suffering, she became a sign of peace and healing. After surviving a violent storm, Maria entrusted her future to Our Lady, promising to dedicate herself completely to the missions. In 1925 she set sail for Ecuador, leaving behind everything familiar to bring Christ to the people of the Amazon.

Among the Shuar people, Sister Maria became more than a missionary - she was Madrecita, their little mother. Her goodness and courage shone when she saved the life of a chief’s wounded daughter with nothing but a small knife and unshakable trust in God. For 44 years she lived among them, not as a stranger, but as a mother, sister, nurse, surgeon, catechist, and friend. Every work of her hands, from medicine to catechesis, from classrooms to clinics, was a witness of the Gospel. She lifted up women with dignity, helped families live in faith, and carried the joy of Christ to the farthest corners of the jungle.

Her life was a constant reminder of Don Bosco’s Salesian spirit: cheerful sacrifice, motherly kindness, and trust in Divine Providence. On August 25, 1969, God called her home through a tragic plane crash. The people mourned, saying simply: “Our Mother is dead.” Yet her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the deep faith she nurtured.

Maria Troncatti shows us that sainthood is not found in grand gestures, but in simple acts of love, lived with courage, perseverance, and a heart that belongs entirely to God. She invites us to bring Christ wherever we are - with the same joy, humility, and tender love that earned her the name Madrecita.

Declared Venerable in 2008 and Beatified in 2012, Maria Troncatti was canonized on October 19, 2025.

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 13th of August Marian Feast Days WELCOME! FATIMA APPARITION - AUGUST 13 The Fatima Children “BUT IN THE END MY IMMACULATE HEART WILL TRIUMPH.” But in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me; it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. THE AUGUST 13 EVENTS On August 13, the children were in jail at Ourem. The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder. Then, according to an eyewitness: “Right after the thunder came a flash, and immediately we all noticed a little cloud, very white, beautiful and bright,...

ST BERTHA OF AVENAY, ABBESS AND MARTYR - 1 MAY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 1st of May WELCOME! ST BERTHA OF AVENAY, ABBESS AND MARTYR The name Bertha (Berta) is derived from the Old German  bercht, brecht, bert etc., meaning shiny, splendid.  Saint Bertha, a martyr and abbess of Avenay (Aveniacum) in the diocese of Rheims, was descended from a noble family. Married to  St Gumbert (April 29), she obtained her husband's consent to join the monastic life. She then built the aforementioned monastery of Avenay. Following an apparition of the Blessed Virgin, she received many nuns there. Once, when Bertha was silently praying for water for her monastery, St Peter appeared to her and showed her a place where there was a spring, which then began to flow into the monastery in a running stream (ex quo fonte mox rivus egressus secutus est eam ad coenobium remeantem).  Finally, towards the end of the 7th century, she was killed by her stepsons - for what reason is not specified, perhaps in ...
