Saints celebrated on the 21st of June
WELCOME!
Saint Engelmund (Engelmundus) is commemorated on June 21. Born in England of Frisian lineage, he entered the Order of Saint Benedict at an early age and was later elected abbot; in this role, he distinguished himself through the utmost conscientiousness and won the hearts of all through his kindness and gentleness. Well into the second half of the 7th century, his apostolic zeal drew him to Holland, where he preached the Gospel in Kennemerland and won many pagans for the Christian truth. Stricken by a fever in the town of Velsen, Abbot Engelmund foresaw his approaching death and subsequently peacefully passed away in the Lord. He went to his eternal reward in the first half of the 8th century and was buried at the place of his death, and his tomb was glorified by many miracles. Later, the Bishop of Utrecht brought the saint's relics to his city; there, they were scattered by the Geuzen [Calvinists] but subsequently gathered up and taken to Haarlem, where they are said to rest to this day.
