WELCOME!

SAINT PHOTINA AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS

According to Greek legend, Saint Photina was the Samaritan woman who spoke to Jesus at Jacob's well and was converted there. Legend tells of her (as of other pious women named in the Gospel) that she later preached. St Photina proclaimed the Gospel at Carthage in Africa.

SHE PREACHED THE GOSPEL

Along with her are named Joseph and Victor, as sons, the general (dux) Sebastianus, Anatolius (Anatolia) and Photius (Photides), and also her sisters Photis, Parasceve and Cyriaca. All of them, according to the Roman Martyrology, were martyred under the Emperor Nero for the sake of confessing Christ. The Greeks can report details about this, which have no real historical credibility. As for her relics - the head of St Photina is venerated in Rome in St Paul's Church fuori le mura

PRAYER:

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Photina may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
