HAIMODIS, VIRGIN AND ABBESS
Haimodis (Hathmoda, Hadumada), Virgin and Abbess in the monastery of Gandersheim (Gandesium) in Brunswick [Germany], was descended from the ducal family of Saxony. She displayed great earnestness from a tender age and despised all earthly honour, greatness and beauty as vain trinkets.
Against their initial opposition, she eventually persuaded her parents to let her join the Herford monastery (Herfordia) in Westphalia. Everyone there admired her zeal, her obedience, and her mortification.
When she was asked to be the abbess of the newly founded monastery in Gandersheim, she shone as a splendid example to all her subordinates by word and deed - a picture of a pure and holy life. She died in 874, only 34 years old, in the odour of sanctity. (Lech.)
