SAINTS EUSTOCHIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
Saint Eustochius, a native of the Greek city of Usad (Usadum) and a pagan sacrificial priest, was converted by witnessing the Christians' perseverance in the tortures they suffered for the faith.
On his request, he was baptised by Bishop Eudoxius of Antioch in Pisidia and was ordained a priest by him. Eustochius then went to Lystra, where he met a relative named Gainus, whom he converted and baptised with his three children, Proba, Lollia, and Urban.
Because of this action, Eustochius was reported to the authorities for being a Christian and led to the governor, on whose orders he was flogged. After this ordeal, he was taken with his newly converted relatives to Ancyra and placed before the governor Agrippinus, at whose behest these holy Christians were publicly tortured and finally beheaded. This happened during the reign of Emperor Maximian. (IV. 471)
