ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY
Saints celebrated on the 12th of January
Paul (Paulus) was a monk from the Order of the Friars Minor. According to Hueber*, he held a doctorate in theology and was known as a particularly fervent admirer of the Blessed Virgin, who is said to have spoken to him from the Image called "Mary, Our Lady of Succour", which was later especially venerated at the monastery.
This holy monk is said to have been murdered by a lecher in Perpignan in A.D. 1458 because he wanted to guide the latter's concubine away from her sin or, as others say, because he denied her absolution for lack of repentance. It is added that his body, including the fatal wound to his head that he had sustained, had not decayed, and that his mortal remains were held in great honour by the inhabitants of Perpignan. The Bollandists* list Paul among the Praetermissi. Hueber* mentions him also on February 4 (I. 1109).
