Bertho, a Franciscan from Ingolstadt (Germany), born of noble family, exchanged the nobility of birth for that of Christian poverty in the garment of Saint Francis of Assisi. He was one of the Observants whom Bishop John III. of Eichstädt, the reformer of his diocese, had called to Ingolstadt instead of the Conventuals. Bertho died here in 1481 with a reputation for sainthood. His tomb was considered a site of miracles, and some sources list him as "Blessed Bertho".
