Saints celebrated on the 29th of July
WELCOME!
SAINT SULIAC, ABBOT
Saint Suliac (Suliacus) (commemorated on July 29, October 1, November 8) is also spelled Sulia, French Sulieau. The Bollandists* list this holy abbot as Silinus. He is venerated in the vicinity of Saint Malo, the bishopric of Rennes, and also in the former bishopric of Leon, which is now united with Quimper.
According to legend, he lived in the 6th century and was a son of King Bromail of Wales, but entered the monastery of Meibod, where he became abbot. He then went as a missionary to Brittany, where he settled at the mouth of the Rance and made numerous conversions through his sermons and his holy life. The small town of Saint Suliac [Saint-Suliac] (Ille et Vilaine) bears his name, but his tomb is still located in the parish church of Plouer.
