Saints celebrated on the 23th of June
WELCOME!
BLESSED ALBERT AND BLESSED OCAR, FOUNDERS
Raderus*, in his "Bavaria sancta", recounts that the two brothers, Albert and Ocar, (who according to some hagiographers were sons of the Bavarian Duke Grimoald, who established the Diocese of Freising, and according to others were Dukes of Burgundy), founded Tegernsee Abbey on the lake of the same name in Upper Bavaria, situated in the Alps. He also states that both aided Pope Gregory against the Lombards and were rewarded by him with relics of saints for their foundation.
Upon returning from Rome, they entered the very Tegernsee Abbey they had established and took up their habit there, where Albert subsequently became abbot, while Ocar remained a lay brother (conversus). Similarly, according to the same author, they are said to have founded St. Pölten Abbey (S. Hippolyti) in Austria, while their nephew Utho built Ilmmünster Abbey. They lived around the year 749 and are listed among the "Blessed" by Raderus*.
