EUSTELLA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR
Eustella, a virgin and a king's daughter, is said to have been converted at Saintes in France by Saint Eutropius, the first bishop of this city.
She is probably identical with Eustella, who mentioned by Artur* on May 21 as a prince's daughter and martyr of Saintogne. According to Migne*, where she is also called Estella, she facilitated that Saint Eutropius, after his martyrdom, was given an honourable burial. By this act she outed herself and was publicly recognised as a Christian.
Her father was fuming about this and wanted to bring her back to paganism with all his might; but since he was not able to do this, he handed her over to the persecutors, who after much torment killed her. These events took place towards the end of the 3rd century. (Apr. III. 722)
