Saints celebrated on the 4th of November
WELCOME!
SAINT AMANTIUS, BISHOP OF RODEZ
Saint Amantius, commemorated on November 4, was the first Bishop of Rhodez (apud Ruthenos) [Rodez] in France, and also a native of that city. He joined the clergy at a young age and was considered worthy for the episcopal position there because of his virtues. With tireless zeal, he worked for the conversion of the pagans, who were still very numerous in his diocese at that time, and won many for the true faith through the power of his preaching. He also possessed the gift of miracles. Among other things, the honey that was stolen from his garden is said to have turned to pitch for the thief and back into honey when it was returned. He died towards the end of the fifth century (according to other sources, in 825) and was succeeded by Saint Quintian (Quinctian), who in 511 planned to have his body solemnly raised, but according to Gregory of Tours, this was prevented by Saint Amantius himself, who appeared to Saint Quintian in a dream and made clear to him that he disapproved of this undertaking. Amantius is depicted in episcopal vestments and is the patron saint of Rhodez. His name is listed in the Roman Martyrology* on November 4.
