WELCOME!

SAINT PIERRE DUMOULIN, PRIEST AND MARTYR

The missionary Petrus [Pierre] Dumoulin was executed for his faith on November 14, 1838, in Tonkin [Vietnam], along with the local priest Petrus Koa. Petrus Dumoulin was born in Cors, Diocese of Tulle, on February 20, 1808. From childhood, he displayed great piety, a tender devotion to the Mother of God, and a rare work ethic. During a serious illness, he made a vow to dedicate himself entirely to the service of God and, with a dispensation for age for the purpose of missionary work, received priestly ordination on November 21, 1830. As early as July 15 of the following year, he landed in Macau, and two months later he was already in Tonkin. There he preached and baptized amidst a terribly bloody persecution. Often, anticipating his death, he would jokingly say, "I'm too tall; they'll soon cut me down." On July 31, 1838, he was thrown into prison. Two native priests, Petrus Koa and Vincentius Diem, were already there. Even in prison, he had the grace to proclaim the name of Jesus and to make some conversions. The torture began with thirty lashes of the iron rod, which tore his flesh to shreds. When the judges asked him if the wounds hurt, he replied, "Why not? I am of flesh and blood like all other men, but it doesn't matter; I am just as content with the torment." The beatings were repeated several times in this manner during the four months that filled his ordeal because he did not want to betray his fellow priests or trample the cross underfoot. His fellow prisoners suffered the same punishment. Finally, they were sentenced to death: Petrus Dumoulin to beheading, and Petrus Koa and Vincentius Diem to hanging. The body of the former was transferred to Paris to the House of Foreign Missions; his stole, chalice, and crucifix are also kept there.

His beatification took place under Pope Leo XIII, and in 1988, Pope John Paul II declared him a Saint in 1988.

PRAYER:

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Pierre may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

FATIMA APPARITION - 13 AUGUST

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 13th of August Marian Feast Days WELCOME! FATIMA APPARITION - AUGUST 13 The Fatima Children “BUT IN THE END MY IMMACULATE HEART WILL TRIUMPH.” But in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me; it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. THE AUGUST 13 EVENTS On August 13, the children were in jail at Ourem. The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder. Then, according to an eyewitness: “Right after the thunder came a flash, and immediately we all noticed a little cloud, very white, beautiful and bright,...

BL. RICHARD NEWPORT, PRIEST AND MARTYR - 30 MAY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 30th of May WELCOME! BLESSED RICHARD NEWPORT, PRIEST AND MARTYR Richard Newport, alias Smith , was born in Northamptonshire and performed his studies abroad, partly in the college of Rheims (if he be the Richard Smith whom I find in the Douay diary sent to Rome in 1586) and partly in that of Rome, where he was made priest. From thence he was sent upon the English mission, and behaved himself in such a manner as justly to acquire the character of a laborious missionary; being withal remarkably successful in bringing home many strayed sheep to the fold of Christ, to which his apostolical way of living did not a little contribute.  He was several times apprehended and cast into prison, and twice banished. His name occurs amongst those who were transported in 1606; at which time, we are told, he took that opportunity of making a pilgrimage to Rome, there to pour forth his prayers at the tombs of the apostles, in behalf of thi...
