WELCOME!

SAINT ANDREW DUNG-LAC, MARTYR, AND COMPANIONS (MARTYRS OF VIETNAM)

Saint Andrew Dung-Lac was a diocesan priest who was martyred in 1839. He was one of a group of 117 martyrs, 96 were Vietnamese, 11 Spaniards, and 10 French. Of these, 8 were bishops, 50 priests, and 59 laity. They were martyred over the course of several years and canonised together in 1988.

PERSECUTIONS OF CHRISTIANS

These saints died under persecutions of Christians that lasted from 1625 to 1886 and costed about 130.000 lives.

The 117 martyrs were beatified in four groups: the first of them on May 27, 1900, by Pope Leo XIII; the second (all Dominicans) on May 20, 1906, and a third on May 2, 1909, both by Pope Pius X; and the last (including two Spanish bishops) on April 29, 1951, by Pope Pius XII.

PRAYER:

O God, source and origin of all fatherhood,

who kept the Martyrs St Andrew Dung-Lac and his companions

faithful to the Cross of your Son even to the shedding of their blood,

grant, through their intercession,

that, spreading your love among our brothers and sisters,

we may be your children both in name and in truth.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me; it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. THE AUGUST 13 EVENTS On August 13, the children were in jail at Ourem. The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder. Here he remained in the English college till 1580, when he returned into England, and was not long after apprehended: for I find by a printed diary of things transacted in the Tower of London from 1580 till 1585, that on the 5th of December, 1580, Luke Kirby, Thomas Cottam , and other priests, were brought to the Tower from other prisons; and that these two, on the 10th...
