BLESSED JOAN ROIG I DIGGLE, MARTYR Blessed Joan [John] Roig i Diggle ( May 12 , 1917 - September 11 , 1936) was a teenager from Catalonia who had hoped to become a missionary. A member of the Federation of Young Christians of Catalonia , Blessed Joan went to school in Barcelona before he moved to complete his education under the La Salle Brothers and Piarists in El Masnou. He then had to take on jobs in warehouses in order to support his father who had become unemployed due to a financial situation in his workplace. Blessed Joan delivered communion to the old and sick and was known for offering them comfort during the mounting Spanish Civil War when it became uncertain as to the fate for priests and religious.
