ST FLORINA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR - 1 MAY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 1st of May WELCOME! SAINT FLORINA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR Saint Florina, Virgin and Martyr, commemorated on May 1 , is said to have belonged to the company of Saint Ursula ; her relics are venerated at Mazoria in Auvergne, and their translation - along with those of Saint Valeria - is believed to have taken place under Bishop Louis of Langres towards the end of the 14th or the beginning of the 15th century. Near Mazoria, two facing cliffs are pointed out, with a river flowing between them. According to tradition, while fleeing from her persecutors, Saint Florina was carried by an invisible power from one cliff to the other, leaving the imprint of her left foot on the first and that of her right foot on the second.  (Information from Stadler 's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints, Volume  2, Augsburg, 1861, p. 234) Stadler's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints - Sources and Abbreviations PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God...
