  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 23rd of April WELCOME! VENERABLE MARY, ABBESS Butler * lists  Mary with the title " Venerable ," though he does not specify the date of her death or her feast day. Known in the secular world as Mlada or  Milada , she was a close relative of Duke Boleslaus of Bohemia (who reigned from mid-967). With the approval of  Pope John XIII , the Duke founded a  Benedictine  convent for women at the Church of Saint George in Prague, and  Mary  presided over it as its first abbess. She also rendered significant service to the Christianisation of Bohemia. Notably, she travelled to Rome to meet  Pope John XIII and secured from him the confirmation of the Diocese of Prague (under the metropolitan see of Mainz) in the year 972; however, the formal decree was not issued until the pontificate of Benedict VI .   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 23rd of April BLESSED MILADA, VIRGIN AND ABBESS Raised and educated in Regensburg [Ratisbon], where she acquired an unusual knowledge of Latin and the Holy Scriptures, she wished to remain there and serve God as a perpetual virgin, which her father granted. After the latter's death she went to Rome, where  Pope John XIII gave her the name Mary  upon her joining the  Benedictines  (in A.D. 971).  She then worked for the Christianisation of Bohemia by applying for the creation of the Diocese of Prague (in 973). She also founded a convent for noble Bohemian ladies in Prague, of which she became the first abbess. She gave the sisters a shining example of glorious virtues. Her holy death took place on  February 8  or February 9 , 994.  Blessed Milada is commemorated on  February 9 , February 8 , and April 23 .
