  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 15th of April WELCOME! SAINT PATERNUS, BISHOP OF VANNES The Bollandists * initially considered this Bishop of Vannes (Venetum) in Brittany to be the same person as the  bishop of Avranches of the same name , who died in Vannes. (cf. Mart. I. 45.) The two bishops were contemporaries, and Paternus of Vannes too is said to have been a hermit in his youth. But the locations and other details are quite different. He is said to have built monasteries and churches in the Cardigan region, the most important of which was named after his name Clan-Patern Vaur - Church of the Great Paternus . He accompanied  Saint David to Jerusalem, and was consecrated bishop by Patriarch John III. Appointed bishop of Vannes, he built a monastery not far from this town.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 10th of April   WELCOME! BLESSED PATERNUS, RECLUSE AT PADERBORN Paderborn Cathedral, 1892 Paternus is called "blessed" by Papebrochius *, and "saint" by Trithemius*, Arnold Wion, Menardus*, Bucelin*, Ferrarius *, and several other hagiographers. In Paderborn he was always numbered among the saints of the city.  This holy man was a recluse at the Addinghofen monastery, which had been built by  Meinwerk (Meinwercus )  from 1015 onwards along with a magnificent church for the Benedictine Order in Paderborn.  Paternus, a Scot by birth, was among the first residents of this monastery. Separated from the convent, he wanted to be locked in a neighbouring cell for love of solitude. In this seclusion he lived for several years.  On the inspiration of God, he once announced to the bishop and all the inhabitants of Paderborn that the city would be destroyed by a terrible fire within 30 days unless everyone...

SAINT PATERNUS, MARTYR Saint Paternus was killed for the Christian faith along with a large group of holy men and women, headed by  Saint Quartus . The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Fundi, in Campania, Saint Paternus, a martyr, who came from Alexandria to Rome to visit the tomb of the Apostles. Thence he retired to the neighbourhood of Fundi, where, being seized by the tribune whilst he was burying the bodies of the martyrs, he died in captivity." [St Padarn.]  Saint Paternus was born at Poitiers, about the year 482. His father, Patranus, with the consent of his wife, went into Ireland, where he ended his days in holy solitude.  MONASTIC LIFE Paternus, fired by his example, embraced young a monastic life in the abbey of Ansion, called, in succeeding ages, Marnes, and at present, from the name of a holy abbot of that house, St Jovin des Marnes, in the diocese of Poitiers.  HE MOVED TO WALES After some time, burning with a desire of attaining to the perfection of Christian virtue, he passed over to Wales, and in Cardiganshire founded a monastery called Llan-patern-vaur, or the church of the great Paternus.  He made a visit to his father in Ireland: but being called back to his monastery of Ansion, he soon after retired with St Scub...
